What is it? The new CLA is a compact, front-wheel-drive sedan that is based on the A-Class hatchback, which has been sold in Europe in various versions since 1997.
Though it’s a step down in size and price from the nice C-Class line, the CLA is not a tiny city Car (think SMART car), but, instead, is a properly proportioned compact sedan designed to look like a sporty coupe. In fact, this one is designed to look a lot like the $75,000-plus CLS. The first version we’ll see, the CLA250, is said to start at around $30,000.
Power comes from a new 208-hp 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine and seven-speed automatic, similar to the powertrain in the base C250, which we found exceptionally smooth when we tested it last year.
For people who rebel at the concept of a front-wheel-drive Mercedes, there will be an all-wheel drive 4Matic version for about $3,000 more. No doubt purists won’t be satisfied with that, either.
The interior looks upscale and trim, with black wood and walnut accents. The CLA is definitely a try before you buy proposition since the cabin will no doubt be tight for some
Prices haven’t been announced but we’d estimate they’ll hover in the low to mid $30s when moderately well equipped. Right now it looks like the CLA250 will arrive this coming fall alongside the A-Class hatchback.
What's new or notable? Front-wheel drive and Mercedes-Benz aren’t usually spoken together when talking about US-market M-Bs.
CR's take: With nothing to take on the Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series, it makes sense for Mercedes to bring over the CLA sedan with the A-Class hatchback. After all, hatchbacks are still accepted only by the die-hard purists in the U.S.

What is it? Formerly known as the Infiniti G, the Q50 is first new model under Infiniti’s revised naming scheme. This sports sedan takes styling cues from the Essence concept and is the first model in Infiniti’s new brand direction.

Shown only in sedan form, the Q50 will be powered by a choice of a 3.7-liter V6 producing 328 hp or a new hybrid system. No matter which powerplant a buyer chooses, they can get rear- or all-wheel drive with the new car.

Infiniti claims the interior features a “driver-centric cockpit,” and it will debute the new Infiniti InTouch communications system with touch screen capability.
Pricing starts at $36,700 for the sedan, $43,950 for the hybrid version.

What’s new or notable? The Q50 will feature two new technologies—direct adaptive steering and active lane control. The new steering system has advanced control of the tire angle and steering input. There will be four steering settings for customization based on
road conditions or driver preference. The lane control system uses a camera to monitor the road in order to make sure the car stays within the lane.

CR’s take: Infiniti has had a very easy to use—if somewhat dated—infotainment system in its vehicles. We are hoping that InTouch is an evolutionary system and not a revolutionary one that messes up a good thing.

What is it? Buick has updated and upgraded its competitive large sedan with new interior and exterior design cues, advanced safety technologies, and enhanced in-vehicle connectivity. Sleek LED running lamps and wrap-around tail lamps highlight a new exterior design while a redesigned instrument panel is notable among several interior changes. New features include the voice-activated IntelliLink infotainment system. This system also uses Bluetooth or USB to connect a user’s smart phone to the system.
A new top-end interior package is highlighted by Sangria-colored semi-aniline leather seats and armrests, which have a thin protective coating to protect them from wear and staining, and ebony and ash accents.
Pricing is set to start at $34,060 including destination.
What is new or notable? Features such as a blind-zone alert, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, forward-collision alert, rear cross-traffic monitoring, and pre-collision braking give the LaCrosse a comprehensive safety system similar to those found on many other luxury sedans. Hazard alerts are routed through GM’s Safety Alert Seat system, which sends vibrations to the drivers seat. The vibrations not only indicate a potential collision, but the direction that it may be coming from.
CR’s take: Reliability of both four-cylinder and V6 versions of the LaCrosse has been below average. We hope this update also addresses some body hardware problems that has plagued the sedan over the past several years.
