What is it? What is it? Hyundai showed the HCD-14 Genesis concept at the Detroit auto show, which the carmaker says is more than eye candy.
Claiming it “might” be an indication of future production vehicles—like, perhaps, a replacement for the somewhat unexciting current Genesis?—the stylish concept has seating for five, and uses the 5.0-liter V8 from  the current Genesis sedan, matched with an eight speed automatic transmission.
The styling exercise has a number of over-the-top elements, with the rear-hinged rear doors the element most unlikely to see production.
What is new or notable? The HCD-14 Genesis uses a combination of eye-tracking, thumb controls, and gesture recognition so the driver can select navigation, infotainment, audio, HVAC, and smartphone connectivity functions. Hyundai seems particularly proud that the center console has an iPad storage station that keeps the device “secure in spirited driving.”
CR's take: Tech is good, but too much equals overload. We’ll see how much of this stuff makes it to production. And Hyundai’s talk of giving the concept a “premium-sport 4-door coupe road presence” makes it sound as if rear visibility will likely be challenged. Let’s hope a rear-view camera is standard.

Honda Accord Plug-in Hybrid

What is it? Honda’s first plug-in hybrid is a well-equipped Accord sedan that can run electric-only for 10 to 15 miles, at speeds up to 60 mph. It can also operate, as demand arises, in combined gas/electric mode, like a regular hybrid, or gasoline-only.
Power comes from a 137-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and/or a 124-kWh electric motor. When running in gas/electric mode, combined power reportedly tops out at 196-hp. Although relatively small, the 6.75-kWh lithium-ion drive battery pack still takes up about a bit of trunk space.
Honda says that the car can cruise 500 miles on a full charge and full tank. One benefit of the somewhat modest-sized drive battery is that charging times are short: Using a 220-volt Level 2 charger, Honda claims that a full charge takes less than an hour and less than three hours at 120-volts. Reportedly, a Level 2 charger will provide about eight miles of EV driving with just a half hour charge. Unlike the Prius plug-in, the Accord system has an “HV Charge” mode, which uses the gasoline engine to recharge the drive battery while moving, if desired.
CR’s take: The plug-in Accord poses a credible threat to the Prius plug-in, albeit in a different form. Overall fuel economy is apt to be better than the non-hybrid, which is pretty good to start with.

What is it? The Taurus SHO receives a few styling updates to further differentiate it from the rest of the Taurus family. They include a sportier fascia, with a black mesh grille and high-intensity headlamps. Other sporty characteristics include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, sport-tuned steering, leather sports seats and 19-inch wheels.
The powertrain continues with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 delivering 365 hp. The MyFordTouch driver interface is now standard. A performance package for the SHO adds a sport-tuned suspension, performance brake pads, electronic stability control with an off mode and 20-inch painted wheels.

Chevrolet SS

2014-Chevrolet-SS-pr-int-2
What is it? Like the Pontiac G8 before it, the rear-drive Chevrolet SS is borrowed from General Motors’ Australian brand, Holden. Down under, GM is known for creating powerful, great-handling sport sedans and coupes. This foundation promises a character of a well-honed, Euro-influenced sport sedan with a generous dose of American muscle thrown in. Rest assured, the SS will be in stark contrast with the midsized Malibu, just as the G8 was in a different league than the G6.
The SS is a large car, positioned above the front-drive Impala. It shares its core underpinnings with the Camaro, Caprice police car, Holden VF Commodore, and the short-lived Pontiac G8. When we tested the G8 in 2008, it proved fun, quick, capable, and roomy. With a thoroughly developed chassis including independent suspension front and rear, and standard Brembo brakes with four-piston calipers, the SS boasts serious credentials and pedigree.
Serving as a Chevrolet flagship, the $44,470 SS is lavishly equipped with leather upholstery, Chevrolet MyLink infotainment, navigation system, Bose audio, forward collision alert, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitors, back-up camera with cross-traffic alert, and the brand’s first automatic parking system.
What is new or notable: The underhood magic comes from a 6.2-liter LS3 V8—the same basic powerplant used in the outgoing C6 Corvette. Here it produces 415 horsepower, routed through a six-speed automatic transmission. Manual gear selection is enabled through steering-wheel paddles, but no true manual tranny will be offered. Chevrolet claims 0-60 mph times in about five seconds, putting it deep in modern muscle car territory.
If this core formula sounds familiar, it should. The Impala SS from the 1990s was essentially an enhanced rear-drive Caprice with a Corvette-shared LT1 V8. Back then, the Impala was a cool rendition of the decidedly uncool Caprice, with 260 hp and a sinister exterior. Unlike the fundamentally outdated Impala, however, the new SS is truly a contemporary design, and it essentially serves as an evolution of the well-regarded Pontiac G8.
CR's take: The Chevrolet SS proves that despite high gasoline prices, this is the golden age of the muscle car. Never has so much performance and refinement been available in a domestic-brand car than is offered today by Chrysler, Ford, and GM

What is it?  This large sedan has received a thorough
redesign for the first time since the 2000 model year. Designated a 2014 model, the born-again Impala will share a platform with the very good Buick LaCrosse. Its array of electronic convenience and safety features
will include adaptive cruise control, forward collision
mitigation, a backup camera, and lane-departure and rear cross-traffic warning systems.
Engine choices include two four cylinder four cylinder
versions and a V6. The base 182-hp four will use GM’s eAssist mild-hybrid system, with which we got a very good 26 mpg overall in the LaCrosse. The 303-hp, 3.6-liter V6 is stronger but far less economical; our V6 LaCrosse got only 20 mpg.
Pricing will start at $27,530 including an $810 destination charge.

What is new or notable? Optional Chevrolet MyLink adds an eight-inch infotainment screen for navigation and Bluetooth audio streaming.

CR’s take:
With its spacious cabin and up-to-date technology, the new Impala should finally compete well with its large-car peers.

Audi A3

2015-Audi-A3-pr-r
2015-Audi-A3-pr-i
2015-Audi-A3-pr-s

What is it? The next iteration of Audi’s smallest car, the A3, will hit the showrooms as a four-door sedan, replacing the current A3’s hatchback-only configuration. It’s a compact luxury car one size down from Audi’s best-seller, the A4, and it’s positioned to compete against Mercedes’ newest entry in this niche, the CLA, and the Lexus IS.
What's new or notable? The A3 sedan has coupe-like styling and it’s six inches longer than the hatchback, with a wheelbase that’s about two inches longer. That could translate into some badly needed rear-seat legroom. It’s still a small car but will come loaded with luxury features and optional Quattro all-wheel drive.
Power comes from newly reworked four-cylinder engines, two gasoline-powered and the other a diesel. The base engine is a 180-hp,  turbocharged 1.8-liter direct-injection engine and the up-level is a 2.0-liter using the same technology. The 2.0-liter diesel version, called TDI in Audi/VW speak, is said to be good for 150-hp.
The driver information display and optional navigation system use high-resolution 3-D graphics, the latter on a seven-inch screen.
The A3 will also offer Audi’s latest MMI (multi media interface) infotainment system and Audi Connect, which  provides internet-based navigation, weather and gas prices, and a WiFi hotspot so backseat passengers can go online too.
A sporty S3 version will arrive some time after the A3, equipped with a 2.0-liter engine said to be good for about 300-hp. A Hybrid Sportback version, which resembles the current A3, will eventually debut as a plug-in hybrid model, using a drivetrain similar to what powers the Volkswagen Jetta Hybrid.
CR’s take: A small, all-wheel-drive luxury car with and sporty handling certainly has appeal, and the diesel version should get terrific fuel economy. Prices haven’t been announced but we estimate that they’ll start in the $30,000 range.

2013-Acura-ILX-pr-s
What is it? Acura is the latest premium brand to introduce a smaller, entry-level model with the ILX. The ILX is derived from a global platform shared with the Honda Civic, though the sheetmetal and overall tuning are strictly Acura.
The ILX will be offered with three four-cylinder engines.  A 150-hp, 2.0-liter and five-speed automatic with an EPA-estimated 24 city/32 highway mpg, 111-hp, 1.5-liter hybrid and continuously variable transmission with an EPA-estimated 35 city/38 highway mpg and 201-hp, 2.4-liter and six-speed manual with an EPA-estimated 20 city/29 highway mpg.

The ILX will offer a variety of luxury features, such as keyless entry and push-button start, Pandora Internet radio, and text message playback.
What is new or notable? With the ILX, Acura returns to a segment once occupied by the Intregra. It does so with the brand’s first hybrid and the Acura-equivalent of a Honda Si variant, or a more rightly named, a Type S.
The ILX will be built in Indiana.

Cadillac CTS

2014-Cadillac-CTS-pr-int
2014-Cadillac-CTS-pr-e
What is it? Cadillac introduces a bigger, and possibly more driver-focused,CTS for 2014. The exterior is much more modern than its predecessor; the look is stunning with crisp lines and abundant LED detailing in the front. The car has also grown five inches, with two of them sprouting in the wheelbase to make the CTS a stronger competitor for the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Based on the smaller ATS’ lightweight platform, Cadillac claims the redesigned CTS shed 244 pounds, making it the lightest car in its class and weighing some 200 pounds less than a BMW 528i.
Engine choices include a 272-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and a 321-hp, 3.6-liter V6, both available with rear or all-wheel drive. There is also a high-performance Vsport model, with a twin-turbo 420-hp, 3.6-liter V6 and eight-speed manual transmission, more aggressive suspension tuning, and rear-wheel drive.
What’s new and notable? The interior is nicely finished, but like other Cadillacs it has the frustrating and distracting CUE infotainment system. That feature really marred our experience with the ATS in our road test earlier this year.
CR’s take: We really look forward to driving this new CTS. If it drives anything like its smaller ATS sibling, we’re really going to be in for a treat.
When will it be available? Fall 2013.

2010 Mercedes Benz E Class

2010 Mercedes E Class

2010 Mercedes Benz E Class

This car is simply stunning. Mercedes introduces a 2010 E Class sedan and coupe with amazing styles and features. Breaking News! Congress has just passed a law that makes everyone who sees a 2010 Mercedes E Class must stop whatever they are doing and stare and clap as the car passes! Haha, not really, but seriously I mean, come on! This has got to be one of the greatest Mercedes ever built. The engines are a V-6 or a V-8. Something about this amazing car is puzzling; there is a massive price cut from the 2009 E Class. The 2010 E Class has increased performance and luxury on so many levels from the 2009, so shouldn't the price go through the roof? Well obviously not, due to the 9% price drop! However, if you are in the market for a 2010 E Class, thats a good thing!
2010 Mercedes E Class
The 2010 has a redesigned style. The first time I saw a 2010 E Class coupe, I had to double take the car because I had no idea what kind of car that was. Sure enough, it was the new Mercedes 2010 E Class. Every since I saw that beauty, I have liked it. The new design features more rectangular front head lights and nicer tail lights. The E Class starts around $48,000.
