What is it? Formerly known as the Infiniti G, the Q50 is first new model under Infiniti’s revised naming scheme. This sports sedan takes styling cues from the Essence concept and is the first model in Infiniti’s new brand direction.

Shown only in sedan form, the Q50 will be powered by a choice of a 3.7-liter V6 producing 328 hp or a new hybrid system. No matter which powerplant a buyer chooses, they can get rear- or all-wheel drive with the new car.

Infiniti claims the interior features a “driver-centric cockpit,” and it will debute the new Infiniti InTouch communications system with touch screen capability.
Pricing starts at $36,700 for the sedan, $43,950 for the hybrid version.

What’s new or notable? The Q50 will feature two new technologies—direct adaptive steering and active lane control. The new steering system has advanced control of the tire angle and steering input. There will be four steering settings for customization based on
road conditions or driver preference. The lane control system uses a camera to monitor the road in order to make sure the car stays within the lane.

CR’s take: Infiniti has had a very easy to use—if somewhat dated—infotainment system in its vehicles. We are hoping that InTouch is an evolutionary system and not a revolutionary one that messes up a good thing.
